Taking care of your eyes is an important part of taking care of yourself — especially as you get older.
Here at South County Commons, Rhode Island Eye Institute provides South County residents with access to comprehensive eye care and experienced specialists close to home. And one of the physicians seeing patients at its South Kingstown office is taking the conversation about healthy aging beyond the exam room.
Dr. Durga Larkin, a board-certified ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon, is the author of the new 2026 book Timeless Vision: Empowered Aging Redefined.
Looking at Aging Through a Different Lens
Throughout her career, Dr. Larkin has focused not only on treating eye conditions, but also on encouraging patients to take a proactive approach to their overall well-being.
Her new book, Timeless Vision: Empowered Aging Redefined, builds on that philosophy, exploring the idea of empowered aging and encouraging people to approach getting older with intention rather than simply reacting to changes as they occur.
It’s a perspective that fits naturally with her work as an ophthalmologist. Our vision can change throughout our lives, making regular eye care an important part of maintaining independence, quality of life and overall wellness as we age.
Dr. Larkin has been a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology since 1989 and previously served as Chief of the Eye Department at Harvard Community Health Plan. Today, she continues to care for patients here in South County.
